Joop & Sigrid

Introducing 2,5 kilo Lizzy dog

Sigrid

Hi! We’re Joop & Sigrid – an adventurous couple who love freedom, enjoying life, and making it as light and easy as possible.

Joop’s love for the water began even before he could swim. At the age of 14, he discovered sailing – and it never let him go. Over the years, he has owned three beautiful sailboats – a Jeanneau, a Beneteau First, and an FF – each in his care for up to 12 years.

Owning a sailboat has brought him incredible joy… but also its share of headaches. On the water, love and frustration can sit close together. There’s always something that breaks. You’re dependent on others. Keeping a boat in top condition takes time, energy, and a lot of money. And yet – once he’s out on the water, especially under a full moon – Joop feels emotional happiness.

After a year without a boat, Joop, now retired, bought his fourth vessel. Joop no longer needs to work, and after a year without a boat he discovered just how light life can be. Should this boat be sold again? Or… could it be different this time – lighter?

The idea
In places like the UK and Australia, it’s already common practice: sharing a boat. Sharing the costs and the joys. No endless jobs, no scraping off antifouling yourself, no juggling endless maintenance schedules – but still enjoying the magic of the water.

With a shore-based manager taking care of everything – and those costs also shared – all that’s left is pure enjoyment.

Sigrid’s view of the boat
Sigrid – Joop’s partner – lives and breathes lightness and self-love. She works online from the boat and loves sailing with an easy-going man. She’s not a hardcore sailor, but she adores the boat’s interior: beautifully maintained, almost spotless, a gorgeous kitchen, a spacious master cabin, and a lovely guest cabin. Safe, comfortable, and full of charm.

Why sharing works for us
We don’t want to spend all our time sailing. We also love motorcycling, visiting family, and going to festivals. Leaving a boat idle for 10 months a year feels like such a waste.

We’ve always enjoyed sharing and helping others – think of things like couchsurfing and home exchanges. These are the kind of people we love to be around.

That’s why we’re looking for two couples who, like us:

  • Want to sail lightheartedly in the Mediterranean over the next four years.

  • Want a beautiful boat – and to keep her beautiful.

  • Want everything to work optimally without having to do the maintenance themselves.

  • Are happy to have all upkeep done professionally.

  • Want to enjoy a relatively affordable sailing experience by sharing the costs – and at the end of four years, recoup the resale value.

Could this be for you?
Do you recognise yourself in our story?
Do you have extensive sailing experience, the right licences, are you honest, caring, and tidy – but also relaxed and free-spirited? Then this could be your chance to enjoy a dream boat for the next few years, without the usual weight that comes with ownership.
